Veneers and Laminates

Dental veneers, also known as porcelain laminates or porcelain veneers, are shells made from tooth-colored materials customized and designed to protect the anterior surface of your teeth. By bonding these wafer-thin shells to your teeth, Dr. Michael Khorramian, a qualified Porter Ranch dentist at the MK Dental Group, will not only change their color, but also the length, size and general appearance of your teeth.

Veneers have gained popularity in modern dentistry because of their ability to enhance the form of your teeth in a minimally invasive procedure. They are made from either resin composite materials or porcelain, with most dentists opting for the latter because they give a more natural teeth appearance. According to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, dentists prefer porcelain veneers when it comes to correcting your teeth shape or color.

Am I The Right Candidate For Veneers?

If your teeth are chipped, misaligned, worn down, discolored or have gaps, Dr.Khorramian may recommend undergoing veneer placement. It’s a quick and effective way to restoring your beautiful smile and confidence.

At MK Dental Group, we stress the importance of consulting your Porter Ranch dentist before making any decision. During your initial consultation, we thoroughly examine your teeth to establish whether you are an ideal candidate, then explain what the procedure entails, the recovery process and any risks involved.

What Should I Expect During The Treatment With My Porter Ranch Dentist?

Application of local anesthesia during veneer placement depends on the sensitivity of the patient but is not always necessary.

The first step involves cleaning the affected tooth and removing a small amount of enamel from the tooth to give room for veneer placement. Your Northridge and Porter Ranch dentist may also need to make a model impression of your teeth, which is used to construct your veneer in the laboratory. This may take about 2-4 weeks, during which your Porter Ranch dentist places a temporary veneer on your tooth. When your veneer is ready, the temporary one is removed, and your tooth thoroughly cleaned with water and pumice.

Before permanently cementing the veneer on your tooth, your Porter Ranch dentist will have to ensure if it’s the right fit, by examining its shade and size, and adjusting either where necessary. The tooth is then cleaned, polished and prepared to allow for a stronger bonding. Dr. Khorramian will then apply special cement on the veneer and places it on your tooth. This is followed by a special light used to cure the veneer. Any excess material is then removed and the veneer margins are polished.

How Can I Care For My Veneers?

After your treatment, Dr. Khorramian may schedule a follow-up visit to monitor the healing process. Since this is a minimally invasive dental treatment, you can maintain your regular daily oral hygiene, only this time, use non-abrasive fluoride toothpaste for long-lasting veneers.
